This website and journey was intended to share and be an extension of the journey my wife Cheryl and I had been on for the last 34 years.......However, her diagnosis of stage 4 cancer in December of 2020 has changed this journey ......
Cheryl was a very strong woman especially throughout her two year journey with cancer and during those two years, we discovered even better times than we could ever have imagined, while continuing to work in client's gardens and riding our bikes and paddling throughout Wisconsin.......Cheryl passed away peacefully at home in January of 2023.
As you would expect, this is has been both a very big loss in my life and at the same time has developed within me an even stronger driving force to truly embrace today and celebrate the ability to go outside, work in my personal or client's gardens and get on a bike or go kayaking and enjoy everything Mother Nature has to offer on this big blue marble circling the sun......
Through the blog on this site, I will share my first hand thoughts in regard to both grieving and the journey of learning to navigate this new life and the importance of simply getting outside to improve both your mental and physical health. We will laugh along the way, while shedding a few tears and learn to move forward on this journey we call life.
Remember to Lead with Love and Kindness.......
I have always been driven by the acronym CANI, which stands for Constant and Never ending Improvement. And my goal is to achieve that in both my personal and business lives. One of the first ideas my mentor shared with me was that there was only one reason to be in business and that was to deliver the best product and customer service in your chosen profession AND to do it as humbly as possible. After 35 years in business and my marriage, I have found and believe that the CANI theory needs to be applied to both aspects of your life equally.
Being active outdoors has always been a passion of mine from the time I would attend summer camps for Boy Scouts and the YMCA, to snow skiing and golfing with my parents from the age of twelve. I was always outside riding my bike, wandering through the local woods and cutting several lawns in the neighborhood for some money to buy things to enjoy the outdoors.
I love the smell of freshly turned soil in a garden, creating a unique garden for each and every client and the serenity of spinning down a bike trail or silently gliding through a remote and serene body of water, in a well designed kayak.
As life presents challenges, as with the passing of my wife in 2023, I have learned to change and adapt to the new possibilities before me and that includes using my extensive skills in project management, photography and technology to create content for other companies who are looking at unique ways to market their services. The lessons continue as I try to figure out my new identity and who I am based on the values I have always lived by and come out the other side a better, more compassionate, loving and kind person.
I have used the email signature below for over 20 years and with the challenges I have faced over the last four years, it has never hit home as hard as it does now.
“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!”
One of my favorite quotes is:
If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change!
AND REMEMBER......
Tom Brady was picked 199th in the draft......
Remember to Lead with Love and Kindess!
